La nuova sede Regionale ATO La sede regionale dell'associazione regionale trapiantati organi onlus (ATO) si è trasferita nei pressi della villa V. Emanuele di Massafra in Via A. Garibaldi al n. 67 nei locali concessi per solidarietà dalla famiglia di Umberto Albanese, un amico trapiantato, della stessa associazione deceduto da poco.

Ora la Famiglia Albanese, ha deciso di continuare l'opera in favore dell'ATO, e di tante persone che soffrono a causa di una società poco attenta ai problemi vitali.

La cerimonia di inaugurazione, con lo scoprimento della lapide dedicata ad Umberto da parte della sig.ra Albanese, si è tenuta lunedì 02/Luglio.

I locali sono stati benedetti dal parroco della chiesa del Carmine, don Salvatore Di Trani e che nel suo intervento ha confermato che donare il proprio corpo al prossimo è un atto di fede che avvicina l'uomo a Gesù immolatosi per la salvezza dell'umanità.

Il presidente dell'ATO Giovanni Santoro nel suo intervento ha detto che la solidarietà che i congiunti di Umberto Albanese hanno voluto fattivamente dimostrare all'ATO è uno stimolo in più per rafforzare la propria presenza su territorio e non avendo problemi economici per il fitto, rafforzeremo il nostro punto di riferimento sia per i malati in lista di attesa sia per i trapiantati che da noi troveranno informazioni, sostegno e soprattutto tanto amore e calore imano.

All'inaugurazione hanno testimoniato il loro appoggio all'ATO le associazioni AIDO (pres. A. Bisanti) ANED (delegato Zingaropoli Eupremio), FRATRES ( pres. Boccalatte F.) e i coordinatori locali Dr. Tucci, Lonoce, e il medico sociale dell'ATO prof. Gianni Iacovelli.

Il sindaco arch. Giuseppe Cofano nel sottolineare l'importante lavoro svolto dall'ATO in questi anni le ha assicurato il completo sostegno dell'Amministrazione comunale di Massafra. Il dr. Cosimo Convertino tracciando un breve ricordo di Umberto Albanese, ha chiesto ai presenti un maggior impegno perché l'ospedale civico di Massafra conquista quel ruolo che gli spetta vista la sua collocazione geografica e congratulandosi con il dirigente Dr. A. Sorrentino per il primo trapianto di cornea effettuato nello stesso ospedale.

La conclusione è toccata al pres. Santoro che dopo aver riconosciuto il titolo di socio onorario alla vedova Albanese, si è augurato che la solidarietà espressa da tutti i presenti possa in futuro tradursi in gesti concreti, anche semplici, come può essere un sorriso verso chi soffre. Santoro, ha giurato che da parte dell'ATO com'è suo costume e stile saprà continuare con tanta umiltà e generosità onorare non solo L'amico UMBERTO ma tutti gli amici che ci hanno lasciato per un mondo migliore.
